How to Create a Healthier Mindset

October 26, 20242 min read

When people focus on goal achievement, many forget about their mindset, which, in reality, will make or break any undertaken change effort.

I won’t sugar coat it, embarking on any personal development journey can be tough.

However, with the right mindset, make no mistake, you can achieve all of your goals.

Like the saying goes, "The mind is everything. What you think, you become."

Here are some ways to help you create a healthier mindset:

  1. SET CLEAR EXPECTATIONS FOR YOURSELF

Mindsets strengthen naturally when people set realistic goals congruent with their lifestyles.

With having a health-related goal for example, many people mistakenly believe that being healthy takes an overwhelming amount of time.

That’s why it’s so important that you specifically define what you want out of your health journey, as this will have a huge impact on the time and effort required.

For example, feeling good requires different time commitments than something like body building or competitive sports.

One can feel good from a combination of brisk walks, deep breathing and moderate exercise – however body building or competitive sports typically require a strict diet and exercise regimen.

Take small steps and keep moving forward towards the overall goal.

At the same time, be mindful and realistic regarding what is possible in the present moment, and then reevaluate throughout your journey.

  1. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH POSITIVE MESSAGES

I truly believe in the power that comes from positive messages.

I write a lot of them because the right message, received at the right time, can truly change someone’s life.

Positivity isn’t about “wearing rose-colored glasses”.

It’s something that can be used to help through a difficult time because it’s impossible to live a life without some discouragement or negative thoughts.

Positive thinking also increases our longevity, boosts productivity, improves our ability to problem solve and think critically, helps manage stress and reduce depression, and even is linked to strong health outcomes such as reduced risk of cancer.

Sounds great right?

Our brain responds to what we feed it, so to strengthen your mindset, feed it some positive messages!

  1. CHANGE YOUR PERCEPTION

Many people struggle with change because they focus on what they have not achieved instead of praising their current successes.

Focusing on the negative is common because it’s easy, and many people acquire a "glass half empty" perspective.

Changing perspective takes time, practice and awareness.

With greater awareness, we are more likely to "catch" our negative thoughts.

Try to focus your thoughts on how much you've accomplished in the past that got you to your present moment. Align your body and your mind together.

The body is nothing without the mind and the mind is nothing without the body.

When both work in unison, amazing things can, and will happen!

I'll see you in the next post. Until then, remember that living your true purpose changes everything.
